On Book Bans and TBR’s

TBR

I’ve shared my feelings about my TBR (to be read) pile on This Northern Gal before but it is time for another update because my oh my it is getting out of hand again. As with my other post, I’m trying really hard not to get caught up in feeling guilty about it. I want reading to be fun, essentially, but you can read a little bit more about my thoughts on the matter here, if you are interested.

Right now every time I look at it, I feel more than a little overwhelmed. For context, here’s what it currently looks like:

TBR

That’s 39 books that I still haven’t read! It was a lot higher at the start of summer but I’ve been steadily working through it, though not quick enough! For context and honesty, the following books were sent to me by publishers:

-Sea of Rust

-How Much the Heart Can Hold

-The Keeper of Lost Things

-Princess of Blood

-The Fireman

-Project Semicolon

-The House of Binding Thorns

-Obelisk

I’m also still working through my re-read of Harry Potter and trying to get through The Tenant of Wildfell Hall for the Book Fairies book club. And yet, there are countless books sitting on my shelves just waiting for me to give them some attention. As I mentioned some of them are from publishers and I REALLY want to get to them but it seems like I just never get the chance. It’s really getting to me, because I feel like I should have already read and reviewed them but I just haven’t had the time.

So, with a little support from some of my favourite ladies on Twitter (I’m looking at you @eenalol and @corazzz), I’ve put myself on a book buying ban for September. For the whole month, I won’t be buying myself any new books to give myself a chance to catch up on the books that have been patiently waiting their turn. Subscriptions, pre-orders and PR gifts don’t count or else this would be impossible.

I’m nearly two weeks in and it seems to be going ok. Don’t get me wrong, it’s hard to resist the temptation, with so many amazing new releases coming out at the moment. I’ve also been struggling because a lot of the books I’ve been reading recently have been the first in series and I’m pretty desperate to read their sequels! Still, I think it’s for the best. I just hope I can manage to keep up the good behaviour for the whole month! I’ll do my best to keep you updated on it (even if I fail!) but you can bet I’ll probably be tweeting my frustration at some point. If you fancy following me on there too, you can find me at @thisnortherngal

Wish me luck!
