Welcome back! Today I’ve decided to have a go at a book tag for no other reason than that I really, really fancied doing one. I’ve had a big old week at work and I want to distract myself with talking about books for a little while. I popped over to Steph’s blog and saw that she had recently done the Reading Habits Book Tag and decided to nominate myself, so thanks Steph for giving me an excuse to do this. You should head over to her post and see what she thought too! Let’s get started, shall we?
BOOKMARKS OR RANDOM PIECES OF PAPER?
I aim for bookmarks but usually grab whatever is closest to hand. At the moment, I keep finding train tickets in all of my books so make of that what you will…
Maybe I should use this as an excuse to buy some more bookmarks… I have my eye on the (coming soon) Literary Galaxy shop, I have to admit.
STOP READING RANDOMLY OR AFTER A CHAPTER/CERTAIN AMOUNT OF PAGES?
If I can, I always try and read to the end of a chapter but since I do a lot of reading on trains etc it is not always possible to be that precise! If I have nothing else to do, I find nothing more satisfying than powering through and reading the whole book. That is a rare occurrence these days however.
DO YOU HAVE A CERTAIN PLACE AT HOME FOR READING?
Probably my bed or at the very least snuggled under a blanket.
DO YOU EAT OR DRINK WHILST READING?
I drink tea or coffee while I do most activities, reading included. Not so much for eating, though I have been known to.
MULTITASKING: MUSIC OR TV WHEN READING?
All the time. I hate my house to be silent so am usually listening to something, even if that’s a TV series on Netflix that I’m not even paying attention to.
ONE BOOK AT A TIME OR SEVERAL?
I try and only read one at a time. If I don’t have that option, they have to be very different. I can read a book for work (even if that is fiction) and a book for fun at the same time though as I approach them differently. I also tend to dip in and out of non-fiction or short story collections, so I’ll often have one of them on the go in the background.
READING AT HOME OR EVERYWHERE?
Everywhere. I feel under prepared if I don’t have a book within grabbing distance.
READING OUT LOUD OR SILENTLY?
BREAKING THE SPINE OR KEEPING IT LIKE NEW?
I have absolutely no issues with my books showing their wear and tear. I have some special books that I try and keep pristine but otherwise I don’t worry about it.
DO YOU WRITE IN YOUR BOOKS?
Yes, I do! I write in them, highlight them, underline them…I even fold down corners. I tend to only annotate books that I know I will be coming back to again and again, however. That might be because I don’t get them (hello Shakespeare) and need my own notes to get me through, or just because I have a lot of feelings/thoughts. That’s actually a major reason why I have such a hefty book collection – I can’t cope with getting rid of a book that I’ve annotated! It feels too personal to let it out in the world after that.
And that is the end of the Reading Habits Book Tag! I find reading (and writing) these tags so fun and informative so I love them. If you fancy having a go at this tag, go ahead and let me know what your habits are too.
