REVIEW: The Martian

The Martian

The MartianOh my. I loved this book. Devoured it even.

I know I’m probably a little late to the party with this one but with university taking its toll, I wasn’t able to enjoy The Martian until recently. I actually had the book waiting patiently for me after exams and starting tucking into it not long after. Once I started, I couldn’t stop.

For those of you that don’t know, The Martian tells the tale of Mark Watney, who is accidentally left on Mars and has to fend for himself on an uninhabitable planet. Luckily, he’s a pretty smart guy. The science he comes up with his pretty incredible but is explained in such a way that even me, the averagest of average joe’s when it comes to science, gets it. I certainly wouldn’t be able to do the things he does and I was suddenly very glad that I’m on a planet that isn’t trying to get me at every chance it gets.

But I was expecting all this. What I was counting on was a book that was so funny I couldn’t stop laughing out loud. Seriously, you should have seen my housemates’ faces while I sat there chuckling away to myself.

So, if you fancy a read that is both intriguing and hilarious, I would pick up a copy of The Martian and clear your schedule. You can thank me later.

If you’ve already read it, let me know what you thought about it!
