Five on Friday: Things I’m Excited About

One way or another, 2017 is going to be a year of change. I’m almost at the end of my degree and am quickly realising that I will soon have to re-enter the real world. It’s terrifying and exciting all at once. Still, it means that I have a lot to look forward to this year!

1) (Hopefully) graduating: I’m crossing all my fingers and touching wood as I write this but with any luck I will be graduating this summer with a degree in Classical Studies and English. The thought of making it across the stage without making a fool out of myself terrifies me but I think I’m ready for it. I’ve loved my time at St Andrews but I think I’m ready for the next adventure. Even if that is unemployment and depressing amounts of debt.

2) Making the most out of St Andrews: before I leave my favourite coastal town, I want to store up enough memories to last me for a while. I really do love it there and want to hold on to that feeling until the very end.

3) Travelling: Though I don’t have any grand adventure like last year’s trip to New York planned, I do want to do a little more exploring. We have a mini getaway at the end of this month to get ready for and my family and I are hoping to go somewhere this summer. Plus, I want to spend more time in Edinburgh, Glasgow and Dundee before I leave Scotland.

4) Reading: I feel like I really found my balance between my degree and reading for fun in 2016. I really hope that I can keep it up. I even made a video about it (my first in months!), where I talked about my reading resolutions for the year. You can watch it here if you are interested!

5) Saving: Ok, this probably isn’t the most normal thing to include on a list of exciting things but this year I am determined to show some TLC to my savings account. University is expensive but I work while I’m there which means I can afford pretty books, too many meals out and even a holiday or two. I’m not sure of my immediate employment plans after graduating but the reality is that I’ll need to dip into my savings for a while. Topping them up will help out with that and so I’m excited to start treating my savings with a little more care. Is that weird? Probably. I guess I’m an adult now.
