Amsterdam: What we ate

It’s probably of no surprise to long time readers that one of the things I have been most excited to share with you is the food we ate in Amsterdam. I’ve narrowed it down to just four places that I felt I simply had to share. If you’re in Amsterdam, you have to check them out!

Cau Amsterdam

Cau was our pick for dinner on our first night in the city and it was so good that we considered going back again for lunch the next day! Inspired by the culinary delights, Cau served up fresh food that was packed full of flavour. I went for the ravioli which, while lovely, was a slightly small portion that had me snacking on my nana’s chips when she wasn’t looking! There were a couple of wobbles since it was a brand new menu but the staff were so friendly and helpful that it didn’t mar the experience.

De taart van m’n tante was a little further afield but just as tasty. Serving up every manner of cake you could possibly wish for, it was heaven for someone with as sweet a tooth as me. Unfortunately for my dad, there was a very limited savoury selection that they had sold out of when we arrived so he stuck to coffee and one bit of my apple cake.

We dove into Calf and Bloom to hide from the rain on our final day on Amsterdam and I am so glad that we did. Though we didn’t try the food, it looked seriously tasty as it was delivered to other tables. I opted for a hot chocolate with oodles of hot chocolate and it was so creamy, I didn’t want it to end.

As we were leaving, my parents remembered that they had had lunch here a few years ago and vouched for how nice the food was!

I briefly mentioned this in my post about the hotel, but I couldn’t resist sneaking a few more pictures of cake into this post. We went to the Cake House inside our hotel for dessert on my birthday, where I tucked into the loveliest giant Macaron. Fresh and fruity, it was the perfect sweet ending to my 21st.
