THINGS TO EAT: Afternoon Tea at Rockcliffe Hall

Afternoon Tea

There is just something about afternoon tea, isn’t there? A little treat, an escape from the mundane. I absolutely love it.

So when my Nana suggested that we try the afternoon tea at Rockcliffe Hall, I jumped at the chance. I’ve only been to Rockcliffe once before, quite a few years ago now, but it is somewhere I’ve also wanted to go back to and hope to visit again in years to come.

Afternoon Tea

Afternoon tea in the Orangery is £25, though you can upgrade at a cost if you want to add champagne or cocktails. Since my nana had driven over, we stuck with tea (though I didn’t turn down the complimentary glass of prosecco I was offered). You get quite a lot for your money – I was certainly full when I left! It is not as packed a stand as I’ve had at other places but we did manage to finish everything comfortably so I don’t really mind.

afternoon teaLet’s start with the savoury layer, shall we? This was packed with a selection of sandwiches, tiny, delicious tarts and the most amazing cheese scones that I’ve ever had. Seriously, I’d come back for the afternoon tea just to have those scones again.

Afternoon TeaOn the second layer was a custard tart each, a strawberry sundae, pistachio eclairs (I gave mine to my nan) and, of course, fruit scones. It was all absolutely delicious!

Afternoon Tea

This was a very traditional afternoon tea, served with endless pots of tea. Proper patisserie, the usual combinations, old fashioned foods… That’s just my cup of tea (pun intended). It is also in the most gorgeous room with views of the grounds of Rockcliffe Hall, which helps to make the whole experience feel even more special.
