While I was back in Darlington, I finally got the chance to go back to the Houndgate Townhouse for brunch. It has been far too long since I have been in there so I was very pleased to find that it was just as good as I remembered!
This time I decided to go for the pancakes with syrup and bacon. Boy oh boy they were good. Seriously, I’m still thinking about them now. I also stole a bite of my mum’s French Toast (delicious!) and my nana’s full English (tasty!) so I feel pretty qualified to say that the Houndgate Townhouse knows how to do brunch well. You could tell that the priority was creating fresh and fulfilling food that is packed with flavour. They know what tastes good and they know that that matters! Plus, pleasing myself, my mum and my nana is no mean feat as between us we’re pretty fussy!
It meant that we didn’t feel too full or that the food (especially the bacon) was too greasy, as can sometimes happen with brunch. It was just what my nana and I needed to prepare ourselves for a little shopping in town. Poor mum was headed to work, but I don’t think she was too jealous…
While I was in Houndgate Townhouse, I had a little look at the specials board for later in the day and I was practically drooling. Everything looked so tasty that I think I might have to go back for lunch or dinner the next time I’m in Darlington for more than two minutes. It’s such an underrated venue in Darlington and always surprised that more people aren’t raving about it.
