Boy do I have a treat for you today!
As I talked about in my recent post, we decided to try and venture slightly further afield in our recent trip to Edinburgh. Partially, that was down to a desire to see some new things and partially because we had heard all about a very highly rated fish restaurant.
The Fishmarket in Newhaven!
And let me tell you it is worth the hype…
You might have to travel out of the city itself but this chowder is worth the extra steps, let me tell you. It was SO rich and creamy that it could have been a full meal in its own right but we ordered it as a starter.
After that, we tried a few different dishes. My dad had the classic fish and chips:
This was so lovely and not at all greasy.
I went for the Lemon Sole goujons and chips:
Let me tell you, this was beautiful!
The real star of the show though? My mum’s choice:
The monkfish curry!
Now it’s not something I would have picked for myself but I tried some (because of course I did) and it was completely and utterly lovely. In fact, it was so nice that my Mum asked the chef for the recipe to try and recreate it at home. I really hope she manages to figure it out because I wouldn’t having a portion of my own of this. It was so beautiful.
I have to admit that this wasn’t the cheapest meal we have ever had but a) the service and food were amazing and b) if you are looking for a more affordable option, they also offer a takeaway service.
If you are ever in the area, I really do suggest that you try it out for yourself. It’s easy to get to you from the city centre and the food is so fresh (it is literally next door to a fish market) that you would be missing out if you chose to skip this one. I know I’m hoping I can visit again soon!
