The lovely Steph from A Little But A  Lot nominated me for the Blogger Recognition Award and I couldn’t wait to give it a go! Thanks for this Steph! It’s been so long since I did one of these so it should be a lot of fun.

5. Select 15 other bloggers you want to give this award to
6. Comment on each blog and let them know you have nominated them & provide the link to the post you created

How did my blog start?

Far too many years ago, I was heading off to Florida to spend the summer with my grandparents. I wanted a way to keep everyone up to date so started a blog, wittingly called ‘Misadventures of a Jetsetting Teen’. I blogged all summer long, and after some sporadic posts on my return, I started a second lifestyle blog. Since, I was no longer travelling, the first blog didn’t really feel like somewhere I should be posting. I needed something more general.

I loved the second blog but there was so much technical stuff that needed fixing that it was driving me crazy. After an absolute age of trying and failing to get it to work, I knew I needed a fresh start. I had fallen in love with blogging, with telling my story. I didn’t want that to stop. I just needed somewhere new to do it.

Almost three years ago, This Northern Gal was born.

Since then, I’ve been sharing all the things I love in this corner of the internet and I don’t intend to stop any time soon!

What advice would I give new bloggers?

Don’t get caught up in getting the perfect blog. It’s all too easy to beat yourself up because your blog doesn’t look like everyone else’s. It doesn’t have to. It’s your online home and you should make it your own. Get a header that reflects you (I made mine on PicMonkey but you could always commission one) and start out with one of the pre-made themes. You can always learn a little bit more about that side of things later on if you fancy it. You should enjoy blogging, after all!

Hold yourself accountable. This isn’t for everyone but setting up a schedule and being consistent with it has really helped me. If nothing else, it makes blogging something that is a commitment for me. Even if you’re only posting once a week, do the utmost to make that post a week. Doing it regularly also helps you hone your skills!

Who do I nominate?

Anna from A Literary Potion

Caroline from Call Me Caz

Rebecca from Hummingbird Reviews

Jemma from DorkFace

Tarnya from Sweet Allure

And anybody else who fancies a go! If you do it, let me know!
