Getting ready for university

Back to School

Back to School

Hello everybody!

Since we’re somehow already in September, I got to thinking about back to school season. I’ve done some posts about it before, especially when it comes to moving to university so I thought it was about time that I shared my advice with you again.  For those of you that don’t know, I am a graduate of the University of St Andrews, with a degree in Classical Studies and English. I was also a tutor for a lot of my time there so I feel like I’ve just about got to grips with this studying thing.

I appreciate that it might be a bit hard to find all of my posts over the years (especially if you are new to This Northern Gal) so I’ve decided to do the hard work for you and link all of my previous posts in one place for you!

If you click on these links, it’ll take you to all of my study and university advice posts.

  1. If it’s your first year at university, read this.
  2. I wrote a post all about saving money and using discounts while at university.
  3. I wrote all of the practical advice I wished that I had known before going to university here.
  4. This is probably my most read university/ study post and it is all about note taking and meeting deadlines when working independently.  It was one of the biggest changes I encountered when going to university so I’m more than happy to share my advice.
  5. If you’re about to enter the last year of your degree, you might want to read this.
  6. Some things that I learnt from university.
  7. Here are my tips for staying organised!
  8. And some advice on dealing with homesickness if you are studying away from home…
  9. My stationery essentials for studying
  10. How to make the most out of fresher’s week
  11. What to bring with you to university
  12. And the things you really shouldn’t forget!

Phew! That’s quite a lot of reading for you. I hope at least one post is helpful for you, whether you are just thinking about studying, in the middle of a degree or coming back to it after a break. And have fun!
