November has been tough. As some of you may be aware, I decided to have a go at NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) for the first time. If you’re not sure what that is, it is a challenge to write 50k words – a novel – in the 30 days of November. It’s tough, I always knew that, but I don’t think I quite got just how hard it was until I decided to do it. You’ll hear a little bit more on that soon, I promise….
Around the same time, I started a new job. It has meant working full time and it’s quite the step up from what I was doing before so it’s been a challenge. A good one, but a challenge none the less. I also got hit by some job related deadlines that really ate into my time outside of work too.
It means that this month saw me spreading myself a little thin and I feel like This Northern Gal, my caffeine consumption and my immune system paid the price. While I’m fairly confident that I was still bringing in quality content over here on the blog, I feel like my social media accounts were a little quiet. It also meant that I couldn’t take part in some campaigns that I would have loved to, but I just didn’t have the time to dedicate to doing a proper job with them. If you noticed a little less gusto This Northern Gal wise, I’m sorry but I hope you understand. The perils of a lifestyle blog, after all, are that they reflect your real life even when it’s less than ideal.
That’s not to say that it was all work, work, work in November. I read some quality books, which you will be hearing about soon. I ate some lovely food and I did my best to unwind where I could. I’ve also been planning some exciting things for the future, which I’m really looking forward to. Some of them are a little in the air right now so I don’t want to share them just yet but I will.
As the challenging month of November wraps up, I’m looking ahead to December. I’m looking forward to December. I’ve pencilled in some pretty cool stuff both IRL and for this corner of the internet. I’m hoping to sit down and work on some blog stuff this weekend actually, so it won’t be long before that content is finding it’s way to you.
For now though, I’m signing off. I’m going to light a candle, watch Netflix and then probably have an embarrassingly early night. Before I go, here are a round up of some of my favourite posts that I’ve shared this month:
- Why and how I blog about books: this is a guest post I did for the lovely Kirstie and I’m super proud of it.
- A Q&A with Helene Fermont, author of His Guilty Secret: a fascinating read about balancing writing and work.
- Cruelty Free in Focus: Barry M : I‘m kind of embarrassed by how long it took me to write this but it has finally here!
- THINGS TO DO: Christmas Events in the North East: a round up to help you plan your festive season.
- How to Relax and Unwind: Particularly fitting after the month I’ve had!
