The other night, I found myself throwing on some semi respectable clothes and emerging from the fort of books I had accidentally built. I raced across town, full of excitement. Why? I was finally getting to see Bridget Jones’s Baby, after far too long a wait.
I wasn’t just excited to step away from the mountains of class prep; I was excited to finally catch up with good old Bridget. As with many others, Bridget Jones’s Diary was a staple of my teenage years and is still one of my go-to funny films. Sometimes it worries me just how much I can relate to Bridget… and Mark… Basically, I’m an awkward mess and spent most of my time nodding in agreement or hiding behind my hands. Either way, I love it.
I have to admit that I was a little wary when I heard there was another film because I was so worried that it would be terrible… You know the kind of film I’m on about: a reboot seems a great idea and then you watch it and everything is ruined.
Without spoiling anything plot-wise, I can happily report that this is not one of those films. It is everything I wanted it to be. It is every bit as funny and feel good as its successors, with the perfect mix of sappiness to balance it out. Though a little older and having found her stride professionally, Bridget is every bit as embarrassing and relate able as she has always been. It’s nice to see that you can still get somewhere in life and make plenty of mistakes along the way.
Oh and did I mention that Mark Darcy is still just as adorable and amazing?!
So, if you are lucky for a movie that will leave you with a smile on your face, get your big knickers down to Bridget Jones’s Baby stat.
