I don’t know if you have noticed, but things are getting seriously festive. Everywhere I look I see Christmas decorations, I haven’t got my presents yet and I’m daydreaming about the perfect tree. Oh and I’ve been counting down the days until I can go to the pantomine. I love the pantomine and luckily for me Darlington Hippodrome had invited me to see Aladdin.
Sunday evening arrived and I eagerly bounded to the theatre to experience this year’s panto. I took my best friend, who had never been to a panto, which was really exciting for me. I couldn’t wait to see her reaction to Aladdin but I was also a little nervous because I desperately wanted her first time at a pantomine to be fantastic.
Luckily, I didn’t need to worry. Aladdin was energetic, hilarious and the perfect start to my festive season! This production has all the classic humour and innuendos that you would want in a pantomine. I must have laughed most of the way through the show. For me, the comedic highlight was the interactions between The Spirit of the Ring (Louie Spence), Wishee Washee (Liam Mellor) and Widow Twankey (Eric Potts). The three of them worked brilliantly together and had me chuckling all of the way through the show. They were a real win for me and for my friend too.
Another favourite was the music, which had me singing along in my seat. I particularly loved the Darlington-ified songs that we were treated to. If I can get that so that I can listen to it everyday, I would love it!
Finally, I have to say how much I enjoyed the set and special effects that were used. They really elevated the performance into something truly magical. As soon as I took my seat, I was drawn into it. They really made the most of the venue to transport us into the wonderful world of Aladdin.
If you think you’ll love Aladdin as much as I did, you can still pick up tickets from the Darlington Hippodrome website (which you can find here). The show is running until January so you have plenty of time to go and see such a funny and fantastic show. I couldn’t recommend it enough!
