On Falling in Love with Blogging Again

It’s a strange old time isn’t it? I don’t think anybody really knows what to do or how to feel right now. I know I’ve certainly felt like I am well and truly riding an extreme emotional rollercoaster right now and I have a feeling I’m  not the only one.

What I have been trying to do however is focusing on the little wins. The things that I’m happy for and grateful for. From the fact that I have a family who is safe, friends who are healthy and a roof over my head. For the fact that I still have a wage coming in and a tendency towards maximalism in my house (I’ve never been so happy to have so many DVD’s).

But also, for this. For a blog and an internet home. For a place to share and connect and escape.

Many of you will know that I’ve thought about giving up blogging a few times in recent years but I have to admit that with everything that is going on in the world right now, I’ve fallen in love with it again. My blog, and it’s associated social media platforms, has become a a place to share and connect  with people again.

When I first started blogging (way before This Northern Gal), I was going away for six weeks and I wanted a way to stay in touch with people. I loved blogging back then for that very reason and I’m definitely feeling that love again! Being able to communicate with people in blog comments, Instagram posts and tweets has been a lifesaver for me right now and a powerful reminder of why I started blogging all those years ago. I’ve also returned to my roots in blogging by bringing it back to sharing the things that I love whether that is reading, writing and, if you judge by my Instagram, eating pasta. It’s been about the real moments, rather than the sometimes staged life that blogging has been drifting towards sometimes.

Even if I can’t always find the words to post on here (and there are some days when it just doesn’t feel right right now), I’ve been finding other ways to connect online. I’ve been sharing more on Instagram and have even joined in with Twitter chats for the first time in years. I’m so grateful that my friend Steph started the #SixforSunday chat on Twitter on a Sunday night; it’s been a lovely way to end my week. You can find her at @eenalol if you want to join in and I really hope you do.

I’ve also been trying to do something creative every day and Instagram has been a wonderful platform for sharing that. Between snippets of writing and questionable crafting, I’ve found it’s quite useful for me in this stressful time!

Taking this post circle, I think it’s so important to hold on to the little things that make us smile at times like this and I cannot deny that blogging has been one of those things right now. I need to have a think about I continue to make content from my house that I feel comfortable sharing but I’m excited for that challenge.

Finally, if you have liked, commented, shared, replied, retweeted or even just read any of my blogging and social media posts recently, thank you. You’ve brought a smile to my face and I hope they’ve brought you a little bit of joy too.
