The Start of 2018

Sutton Bank

Sutton Bank

On New Years Day, I found myself outside in the countryside, looking out over some pretty incredible views and trying to ignore just how tired I was. Still, there were worse ways to start my 2018 than standing at the top of Sutton Bank with my family. After that, we came home (I may or may not have fallen asleep in the car) and I set to thinking about what I want from the year ahead. Long time readers of This Northern Gal are probably aware that rather than setting resolutions, I pick a word to focus on for that year.

The word for 2018?

Friendship.

I have some fantastic friends in my life and consider myself very lucky to be able to say that. Since university and new jobs and everybody moving, we’ve spread out a little. A lot. And I want to make sure that that doesn’t get in the way. So this year I want to invest more in my friendships, both old and new.

This year I’ve also set myself a few actual resolutions. They’re a mixture of things and I don’t fancy sharing all of them online just yet. However, there are a couple that I reckon you can help keep me accountable for, if you would be so kind.

In 2018, I would like to:

  • Officially start my grad scheme and give it my all
  • Travel somewhere new, both at home and abroad
  • Finish the first drafts of my two current W.I.P’s

And a few other things! It feels a little strange to be making new year’s resolutions after avoiding them for so long but I am hoping to achieve them before 2018 draws to a close.

Have you made resolutions this year?

  1. Looks like you have an exciting year ahead of you! Good luck with everything — I’m sure you’re more than capable to accomplish everything what you’ve planned for this year, and if something comes up along the way and you can’t do it, it’s fine as well. It’s been something I’ve struggled with for a wee while, dealing with the unforeseen obstacles that made it impossible for me to do things up to my potential, and a lack of these unforeseen obstacles is what I wish you for this year! You deserve some peace, haha. And friendship is a good word for this year (gonna keep it in mind and I hope to see you sometime soon then, haha!). Love, D. xx

    1. Thank you for such a lovely comment. I’ve actually been speaking to Kerry about coming up sooner rather than later if we can get something organised? x
