And just like that it’s the final day of my 12 Days of Christmas series. It’s been a lot of work but it’s been so much fun to share some amazing small businesses with you. Hopefully it’s been helpful too! And I’m certainly ending on a high…
Hello and welcome to the blog! Would you like to introduce yourself?
I’m Keely. I’m a paper cutting artist and all round stationery addict from Hartlepool. You might have seen me recently on Channel 4’s Kirsties Handmade Christmas!!
How exciting! What about your business? Tell me about that please!
My business, kppapercuts started a couple of years after I discovered paper cutting. I hand cut nature inspired art and gifts for all occasions and I love to share the relaxing benefits of paper cutting through my kits and workshops.
What a lovely business! How did you get into paper cutting?
About six years ago, I was looking for a craft to help me relax and take my mind off stress I was feeling at work. I tried lots of different crafts (very unsuccessfully!!!) and then stumbled across a video of someone paper cutting on social media. I thought it looked fab and wasn’t like anything else I’d tried so I ordered myself a kit and sat down to give it a go.
I was completely hooked from the very first cut and completed my whole kit in just one weekend!! I’ve been cutting nearly every day since then and it’s still as relaxing as the very first time I tried it.
I have to admit that although I don’t have your skill, I also find it very relaxing. If you were to recommend one of your kits to a beginner this Christmas, which would you choose?
Ooh, that’s a tough one as I love them all! For avid crafters, I’d recommend my Starter Kit which has over 8 pages of templates. Or if you’re looking to spend a bit of quiet time making something for yourself, then my Bee Project Kit is perfect!
I love the sound of that! Maybe I’ll have to get myself the starter kit…What are you hoping for this Christmas?
I think, like most of us, I’m hoping to be able to spend some time with my family just relaxing and enjoying seeing them. My parents live in the countryside in Scotland and it’s always a wonderfully peaceful escape to visit them.
That must be beautiful. I was introduced to your business through Pimms and Needles. What was it like working with them?
I loved working with Pimms and Needles! They’re such avid crafters and we all share the joy of introducing new crafts to our community so it was an ideal collaboration. I loved the zoom workshops and seeing everyone creating their autumnal paper cuts. Everyone did such fab work!!
It was really fun! What is it like running a small business at this time of year?
At this time of year, it’s a mixture of joy that you’re able to help people give really unique and special gifts to their loved ones and being very tired as it’s nonstop! It’s my absolute favourite time of the year though and I wouldn’t change it for anything.
It is so wonderful but I know what you mean by busy! What’s next for your business in the new year?
I’ve lots of plans brewing for 2021! First up, I can’t wait to start up my in person workshops again. I’m working with some gorgeous new venues so fingers crossed it’s not too much longer until I can teach again.
I’m also working on new designs for my next range of kits and templates. I love coming up with new designs, so can’t wait to get started on test cutting them after Christmas.
That sounds amazing! Thank you so much Keely. For more information, you can find Keely’s website here.
